Our client struggled with back pain for several years and finally decided he could no longer bear the pain. As such, he requested both short-term and long-term disability benefits from the Life Insurance Company of North America (CIGNA LINA) and was denied on both counts.
After Dabdoub Law Firm stepped in and showed our client was unable to continue his job as a plant sanitarian with The Kellogg Company in Arlington, TN, he received a favorable decision from CIGNA LINA.
The Plant Sanitarian’s Story
For years, our client suffered from chronic lower back pain and radiating pain down both of his hips, which rendered him unable to sit, stand, or walk for prolonged periods of time. He continued to show up for work, even though he required a cane to walk and move about the 780,000 square foot plant.
Our client also pursued treatment over the years. He received nerve block injections, took prescription medications, and even received surgery. In January of 2020, our client received a lumbar decompression at L5-S1 and interbody fusion. He is still recovering from this surgery.
Since 2018, our client’s degenerative disc changes, “posterior annular bulge, bilateral degenerative facet arthropathy, and moderately severe bilateral L5-S1 neuroforaminal stenosis” were well-documented in his medical records. His pain score was consistently a 7 or 8 out of 10 and his difficulty walking, standing, sitting, and performing other activities was noted by more than 3 treating physicians.
Dabdoub Law Firm Emphasizes the Facts
CIGNA LINA’s denial of short-term disability (STD) benefits was inappropriate, especially considering our client’s recent surgery. Once we brought our client’s medical records to the company’s attention, they were quick to approve his appeal.
Our firm was able to secure STD benefits, long-term disability (LTD) disability benefits, and WOLP claims with CIGNA by stepping in on our client’s 3rd attempt in retrieving benefits from the company.
We are proud to have helped our hard-working client secure his future and gain time to recover from his surgery.
