Guillain-Barre Syndrome Disability Attorneys
Helping Clients with Guillain-Barre Syndrome Deal With Insurance Companies
Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) occurs when your immune system attacks your peripheral nervous system. In most cases, your immune system starts fighting an infection, then targets nerve cells, which can sometimes look similar to chemicals on infecting bacteria and viruses.
The condition typically begins with unexplained sensations, like tingling or pain in the hands and feet, then devolves into weakness on both sides of the body. GBS moves quickly, and 3 weeks in, most people have severe symptoms – symptoms that can easily prevent them from maintaining a full-time job.
Although most people recover from GBS, many have lasting muscle weakness. At its peak, GBS can range from mild weakness to devastating paralysis.
Whether you need time to get through the worst of the autoimmune disorder or the long-term effects prevent you from returning to work, disability insurance can help. If you have coverage via your employer or a private policy, Dabdoub Law Firm can help you recover short-term or long-term disability benefits.
We have been helping clients like you recover disability benefits for more than 20 years, and we are ready to help you through any phase of your claim.

What Are the Symptoms of Guillain-Barre Syndrome?
Most people seek medical attention when they experience weakness on both sides of their bodies, which often makes it difficult to walk or climb stairs. Sometimes, symptoms start in the upper body (the arms, breathing muscles, and face) and move down to the legs and feet.
Common symptoms of GBS include:
- Difficulty with eye muscles and vision
- Difficulty swallowing, speaking, or chewing
- “Pins and needles” sensations, especially in hands and feet
- Sometimes severe pain, usually at night
- Unsteadiness and coordination problems
- Abnormal heart rate or blood pressure
- Problems with digestion and bladder control
In most cases, symptoms start small and escalate. They can intensify in a matter of hours, days, or weeks, and tend to be the worst 2-3 weeks after the onset of GBS. Severe GMS can result in near-complete paralysis, which can be life-threatening, as it can interfere with breathing, blood pressure, and heart rate.
Still, GBS can be debilitating at any level of severity. If a construction worker can no longer see or move about with coordination and stability, for example, they cannot complete the duties of their occupation.
If GBS or another qualifying medical condition takes away your ability to work, our disability lawyers at Dabdoub Law Firm can help you get the resources you need from major insurance companies across the United States.
