Let Dabdoub Law Firm Help with Your Macular Degeneration Claim
Our Macular Degeneration Disability Attorneys Serve Clients Nationwide
Macular degeneration or age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of vision loss among older adults. The disease destroys your sharp, central vision, which may prevent you from reading, driving, seeing faces, or doing close-up work like cooking or household chores.
Although macular degeneration is not painful, losing your eyesight can affect every facet of your life. Many people are unable to fulfill the duties of their occupation when they lose their central vision, which leads to them filing short-term and long-term disability claims.
If you have disability insurance through your employer or an individual policy, you can file a short-term or long-term disability claim for macular degeneration, as well. Dabdoub Law Firm can help. We have more than 20 years of experience helping claimants with their disability claims, and we have worked with every major insurance company.
Whether you need help filing a claim, appealing a denial or termination of benefits, or filing a lawsuit against your disability insurance company, please call us at (800) 969-0488 today.
What Are the First Signs of Macular Degeneration?
An early symptom of macular degeneration is straight lines appearing crooked. Vision changes occur gradually, but your eye doctor should be able to detect the disease before it causes vision loss. Although treatment does not restore vision, it can slow vision loss.
There are 2 types of macular degeneration – wet and dry. Wet macular degeneration occurs when abnormal blood vessels grow underneath the macula, and dry macular degeneration happens when the light-sensitive cells in the macula break down over time. Wet macular degeneration typically occurs more quickly, as blood vessels leak blood and fluid into the macula.
Keep in mind that macular degeneration runs in families, can happen in 1 or both eyes, and is very common. Approximately 11 million people have the disease in the United States alone.
If you notice changes in your vision, see an eye doctor right away. While healthy eating, regular exercise, special dietary supplements, injectable medications, and other therapies can slow down vision loss, changes to your vision may interfere with your income. You may want to seek low vision devices and vision rehab services to live independently, but working a full-time job is often out of the picture.
If you can no longer work due to macular degeneration, and you have a disability insurance policy, Dabdoub Law Firm can help you recover short-term or long-term disability benefits.
